Singapore Airlines (49%) and India’s massive Tata Group (49%), the owner of Jaguar, are to launch a new full service airline in October. It will be called ‘Vistara’, a name derived from the ancient Sanskrit word vistaar, which translates as “limitless expanse”. Similarly its logo, an eight-pointed star, is derived from a mathematical form that is said to represent the universe. The airline, is seeking to lease 20 Airbus A320s (including A320neos) by the end of its first five years in operation.
While Vistara will, under Indian legislation, begin as a domestic carrier it is eyeing international expansion quickly. "We look forward to the repeal of the 5/20 rule (which says an Indian carrier must be in service for five years and have a fleet of 20 aircraft before flying overseas)," Phee Teik Yeoh, CEO of TSAL, said at the unveiling of the airline's branding, livery and crew uniform. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vistara
