Monarch does not recline

The latest airline to drop reclining seats is Monarch based at Luton.  It says it is fitting its fleet with light-weight new cabin furniture in a bid to create more “living space” on board.  Ryanair has already taken this route (cost saving) and so has easyJet.

It says the new seats offer more leg room and could do much to prevent outbursts of “air rage”.

Research revealed traditional seats are a major cause of mid-flight anger with people disliking their personal space being impinged on when the person in front reclines their seat.

The move would spell the end of the mishap suffered by Joan Collins in her 1978 ad for Cinzano with the late comic genius Leonard Rossiter.  Just as Joan was about to sip her drink, buffoonish Rossiter hit her seat’s recline button – making her tip the drink all over herself.

Monarch says the new seats also include a tablet holder for the technology-savvy traveller, which the airline say is “an aviation first”.  www.monarch.co.uk
