England fly Silverjet

Well sort of.

For their flight to Miami, and onwards to Rio, the England soccer team, plus their back-up, are using an ex-Silverjet Boeing 767 fitted with 100 lie flat seats.

The aircraft is at the disposal of the Football Association on a ‘special’ contract with only a maximum length stipulated.  The initial England matches will be at Manaus, São Paulo and Belo Horizonte.

The big Boeing had previously been chartered by The Rolling Stones for their World Tour, sadly cut short with the death of Mick Jagger’s girlfriend L'Wren Scott.

The aircraft is operated by Aeronexus, a South African registered contract airline that is actually based in Bournemouth.

Operating out of Luton in 2007/2008 Silverjet built up a reputation as a top quality ‘Business Class only’ airline, but failed to attract enough financial support to gain any true momentum.  www.thefa.com
