It dates back to 1937. Icelandair is to introduce the airline’s fifth UK gateway at Birmingham. The new flights will operate twice weekly to Reykjavik (KEF), Thursdays and Mondays, from 5 February 2015 and connect with the airline's US services. A three-class Boeing 757 will be used. Andres Jonsson, General Manager of Icelandair UK, said: “We are delighted to announce Birmingham as our newest gateway in the UK. Our first route from the Midlands will not only open up opportunities of travelling to and from Iceland but also a refreshing and convenient way to North America.” Washington DC and Seattle, not available with direct flights, now become a practical change at Reykjavik.
In addition to Birmingham, Icelandair also offers year round service from UK to Iceland from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow. www.icelandair.co.uk
