It has been confirmed that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth will officially open Heathrow’s new Terminal 2 on Monday 23 June.
On Monday 2 June the building will become operational for the first time with flights in and out by United Airlines. She will be accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
The old Terminal 2, opened by The Queen in 1955, was demolished after 54 years of service. It was Heathrow's first purpose-built terminal, originally called the "Europa Building" and was designed to deal with 1.2m passengers a year. By the time it closed in November 2009 it was handling 8m passengers a year. (See ON TOUR). www.heathrowairport.com
