Govia Thameslink Railway Ltd (Govia) will operate the Thameslink Rail Franchise serving both Gatwick and Luton airports from September 2014. Also included in the contract is Southern (including the Gatwick Express) and the Great Northern routes from Kings Cross and Moorgate.
The new franchise will see the introduction of a minimum of two services an hour around the clock between London St Pancras International and Luton Airport Parkway and up to 10 trains an hour at busy times. Passengers will be able to buy rail tickets either way to include the short bus link between the Parkway station and airport terminal.
Gatwick, which earlier this year completed a refurbishment of the railway station, adding a further platform, will see brand new high quality trains introduced on the dedicated non-stop 30-minute Gatwick Express service to London Victoria by 2016, something the airport, airlines and the local community have been campaigning for. From London Bridge the scheduled service is just 28 minutes, but at the nearby Blackfriars it is up to 10 minutes longer, the trains taking a different routes but both calling at East Croydon. www.govia.info
