Airports Commission

Last week was the closing date for Heathrow and Gatwick airports to submit their revised ideas to the Airports Commission on how they see their future runway needs.  BTN’s ON TOUR this week focuses on Heathrow and will follow next week with Gatwick.

Nicola Walker, Director for Business Environment, CBI, summed up the proposals very neatly: "As shown by the quality of the submissions, this rigorous process will deliver a credible option for airport expansion.  It’s important when Sir Howard makes his final proposal in 2015 that politicians are ready to make a decision.

"Direct flights open doors to new trade, but with capacity in the south-east running low and all airports set to be full as early as 2025, the UK is already starting to slip behind competitors.

"We want to see all political parties commit to the findings of the Davies Commission – the UK cannot afford to kick the can yet further down the road on aviation." www.cbi.org.uk
