Qatar to introduce A380

A date has now been set for Qatar Airways to introduce the Airbus A380 on its Heathrow – Doha service.  The aircraft will operate the QR 003 service departing Doha 07:55 and arriving Heathrow 13:15.  Return is 15:05/11:50 with a flight time of around seven hours (all local times).

The arrival of the airline´s first A380 marks a significant milestone for the airline, whose future home, Hamad International Airport (HIA), has been specially designed to cater to the aircraft, with six contact gates designed specifically for the superjumbo.  In addition, the maintenance hangar at HIA – which is the largest in the world – is able to accommodate two A380s simultaneously.

Qatar Airways has also unveiled its airborne lounge, claimed to offer passengers an escape from the typical cabin environment, developed to make them feel like they are in their own executive club.  The spaciousness of the lounge, combined with the most advanced mood lighting system available, helps make passengers feel refreshed when they return to their cabin for rest or work.

Qatar Airways is set to receive three A380 aircraft in quick succession this summer with a three-class configuration.  It has 13 on order. The aircraft is expected to be unveiled at the IATA summit in Doha at the start of June.  www.qatarairways.com
