Edinburgh booms long haul

With United Airlines already announcing daily summer flights to Chicago (see BTN 23 September) from 23 May 2014 Philadelphia and Qatar are to have direct services from the Scottish capital.

US Airways, the most low profile of all American airlines working out of the UK, really did spring a surprise last week with the announcement of Edinburgh – Philadelphia flights.  The airline already serves the home of the Liberty Bell from Heathrow and Manchester.  A two-class Boeing 767 will operate seven days a week from 20 May until 1 October.

Starting on 28 May, Qatar Airways will introduce a five times per week service to Doha operating a two-class Boeing 787 Dreamline, a real ‘state of the art’ aircraft with exceptional comfort in both the Business and Economy cabins.

The third week in May next year promises to be exceptionally busy for Gordon Dewar, Airport Director, and his team, winning the business something he is very proud of. “This is not just an achievement for Edinburgh Airport but for the wider city and we’re delighted to be able to share our success with our partners”, he said. www.edinburghairport.com
