Live TV sports on Etihad

Motor sport fans actually flying on Etihad Airways yesterday as the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix took place would have been able to see the event live.

Last Friday (1 November) Etihad was due to switch on a new in-flight entertainment system initially featuring five live television channels including practice for the race.  BBC World News, BBC Arabic, euronews and Sport 24 took priority whilst CNBC, Japan’s NHK World Premium, and CNN, will be introduced during November, whilst Sky News Arabia will follow in the coming months.

In addition to the Formula 1, passengers can also watch straight away live top sporting events including the ATP World Tour Finals, Premier League football and German Bundesliga matches, and Euroleague Basketball.

The major sports coverage continues in 2014 and includes the Australian Open, French Open and US Open tennis championships, the Winter Olympics, the Masters from Augusta and Ryder Cup golf, and the FIFA World Cup from Brazil.

All eight news and sport channels will be available on 21 Etihad Airways widebody aircraft by today, which will increase to 37 widebody aircraft by the end of 2014. www.etihad.com
