Indonesia’s majority state-owned airline Garuda will now make its much heralded return to the UK on 29 May 2014. The airline will operate non-stop from Gatwick to Jakarta three times per week (five from September) with a three-class Boeing 777-300ER.
Scheduled to take 14hrs 20mins it is thought to be the longest direct flight out of the UK.
The airline went through a difficult period following a fatal accident with a Boeing 737 in 2007 and subsequent placement on the EU airline blacklist. However in October 2009 this was lifted and flights to Amsterdam resumed in June 2010, originally through Dubai but now via Abu Dhabi as part of a codeshare deal with Etihad Airways. www.garuda-indonesia.com
