Flights to the Republic of Seychelles have been dropped by Qatar Airway effective 1 September 2013. The daily service is flown by a two-class Airbus A319 and linked up with other points at the airline’s Doha hub.
The National airline, Air Seychelles, has been 40% owned by Etihad since 2012 in partnership with the islands' government. At one time operating out of Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester it no longer has any direct flights from the UK. Routing for the future will be either via Abu Dhabi (5hrs) or Kenya Airlines (3hrs) via its Nairobi services.
The Seychelles are in the Indian Ocean, east of Kenya and north of both Madagascar and Mauritius. The former Crown Colony has a population of just 85,000.
In a much more positive move Airbus has published pictures of Qatar Airways’ first of 13 A380s due for service introduction early 2014. The distinctive tailfin was last seen in Hamburg (BTN 29 April) www.qatarairways.com
