In spite of the well publicised delays with Boeing 787 Dreamliner, budget airline Norwegian (DY) is pushing ahead with plans to introduce non-stop three times per week services from Oslo to both New York (30 May) and Bangkok (1 June).
Until the 787 arrives Norwegian is wet leasing a pair of Airbus A340s for the services from the established Portuguese company HiFly who specialise with the four-engined Airbus. The former Singapore Airlines and Emirates aircraft offer First Class, Business Class and Economy.
Norwegian has eight Dreamliner’s on order in a two-class layout and also 100 Airbus A320 neo and 100 Boeing 737 MAX. It is a major operator out of Gatwick not only to Scandinavia but to Mediterranean holiday resorts also.
The airline plans to introduce services from Copenhagen and Stockholm to Fort Lauderdale in November opening up the Florida market from Scandinavia but with 787 uncertainties an actual start date confirmation has not been confirmed. www.norwegian.com
