Qatar problems

According to Flight International Qatar is not a happy camp, with Rizon Jet, an executive operator which also has a significant operation at London’s Biggin Hill executive airport, up in arms against the country's civil aviation authority.  It has accused the authority, and indirectly Qatar Airways who operate both the national airline and international airport of “unfair competition” by creating “hindrances that make it impossible to sustain a viable business”.

At a press conference in Doha, Rizon Jet’s CEO, Captain Hassan Al-Mousawi, noted that its investors have spent a lot of money to build a state of the art VIP terminal and maintenance but is facing hindrances that make it impossible to sustain a viable business. The local CAA was “creating obstacles” to Rizon Jet’s progress, he said.

The background to this unlikely outburst is that rival charter business Qatar Executive is part of the airline of the same name and appears to be having certain advantages.  Typically Rizon Air has been banned from offering third parties use of its VIP terminal at the existing airport. “We are a Qatari owned company and would like to be given the opportunity to build a viable business in Qatar,” he said. www.rizonjet.com
