British 787 first

Thomson Airways will next year become the first leisure carrier to begin passenger operations with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.  It is the lead UK operator.

Based at Luton the airline has a current fleet of nearly 60 aircraft including both the Boeing 767 and Boeing 757 for long/medium haul routes.  At present there are 13 Dreamliners on order with the initial aircraft due in the first quarter 2013 with three more to follow for the summer season.  Options could call for 13 more.  It has now standardised on the Boeing 737-800 for its European operations.

Thomson intends to configure its aircraft to carry 291 passengers.  A Premium Club cabin will seat 47 in a 2+3+2 configuration, each with a 38” pitch, and the Economy Club cabin will seat 244 in a 3+3+3 configuration, each with a 33” or 34” pitch. www.thomsonfly.com
