British Airways returns

Colombo (Sri Lanka) is to return to the British Airways network after a break of 15 years.  With Gatwick as the London airport, BA is to serve the island state with a three times weekly operation, an extension of its established flights to Male in the Maldives.  Operating the route will be a Boeing 777 configured with 48 Club World seats, 24 World Traveller and 203 World Traveller.

Silla Maizey, Managing Director Gatwick, British Airways, said: “This is such an exciting new route for us.  The UK has the second largest number of tourists visiting the island after India so it’s a fantastic opportunity for them to fly there with British Airways from Gatwick.

“Sri Lanka has so much to offer visitors from beach, spa or adventure holidays, to cultural, wildlife and nature breaks”.

With a civil war well behind it, in 2011 Sri Lanka had one of the fastest growing economies of the world.  British Airways last served Colombo from October 1995 until March 1998. www.ba.com/srilanka
