Busy Biggin

Biggin Hill Airport, which is in the London Borough of Bromley, handled a significantly higher profile of large corporate jets and some demanding peaks during the period of the London Games 2012 confirmed Robert Walters, Business Development Manager, in a post-Olympic de-brief to BTNews.

  • During the period 21 July to 15 August 1,300 slots were taken.  The ACL slot system worked well for the airport, no problems were encountered.
  • Business aviation growth was 12.5% during July 2012, compared against July last year.
  • Corporate traffic included several BBJs, many Global Express and Gulfstream in a varied mix of business aircraft.  Regular corporate charters from European destinations operated by ATR 42 & 72 aircraft were handled.
  • Busiest hour was during Saturday morning, 28 July, with 16 outbound and 4 inbound jets in a 60-minute period.
  • Parking at peak period between 26-29 July, 80 corporate aircraft were parked on ramps around the airfield and on the subsidiary runway 11/29 where a remote drop-off facility was established.

“Together with our FBO partners Jet Aviation and Rizonjet, the handling arrangements were seamlessly managed for customers, reflecting great credit on all staff teams involved”, Robert Walters said. www.bigginhillairport.com
