India’s low-cost carrier SpiceJet is launching a three times a week service between Delhi and Kabul from 3 August. Kabul is the carrier’s fourth international destination. Already serving the route is Air India, Ariana Afghan Airlines and Safi Airways, the independent Afghanistan carrier.
Spicejet was established in 2005 and following the usual Indian practice allowed to take up international routes after five years, in 2010. The airline currently has a fleet of 47 aircraft made of 35 Boeing 737 NG series, the balance Bombardier Q400s. Last year it made a profit of just under US$20m. www.spicejet.com
