Delta Air Lines, the archetypical American air carrier, has struck a deal with Chelsea Football Club, the European Club Champions, to become its official airline sponsor. Quite how this arrangement, with what is known in the US as a soccer club, was put to the board of the Atlanta-based airline has not been stated, but it might well be the first time the “the beautiful game”, is to be promoted by a United States' airline.
The partnership will give Delta numerous benefits including LED exposure at each home game and exposure on the Chelsea FC website. The Delta logo will also be included on media backboards for interviews conducted at Chelsea’s stadium around Premier League home matches. Additionally, Delta will benefit from entitlement space at Stamford Bridge’s Millennium Hotel, enabling the airline to entertain guests at Chelsea’s home in a Delta-branded environment.
Chelsea will be able to fly on Delta to the World Club Championship to be held in Japan. The catch is that the routing is via Atlanta. www.delta.com
