In what is clearly a bid to get away from its "the most annoying airline in the world" reputation Ryanair is to experiment with seat reservations on some routes. It is rumoured that easyJet has also looked at this possibility. In the Ryanair case it is probably just a ruse to raise money, the airline stating time and time again that its fares would not increase due to fuel price rises, seen by every other airline operator as an impossible promise. Ryanair is the only air carrier to actually charge for an electronic check-in, extras sometimes doubling the price of an advertised flight.
From mid-May onwards Ryanair will offer pre-booking of seats on its routes out of Dublin to Gatwick and Malaga, the front two rows and a further two rows by the emergency exit, these having more legroom.
The cost is €10 per sector, considered good value as this also includes priority boarding. www.ryanair.com
