Gibraltar’s new status.
The Crown dependency of Gibraltar, famous for its apes, popular with cruise ships, and as a back door entrance into Spain, has been confirmed as a City in its own right.
It was granted this position by Queen Victoria in 1842 but somehow over the years it was dropped from the official record. A new published list of 81 recognised cities corrects the mistake.
In the meantime there is no news regarding direct entry in the Republic from the terminal, nor the final completion of the tunnel under the runway.
The issue 20 June 2022 covers BTN’s last visit to Gibraltar but there are plenty more Gibraltar stories to be found in BTN with our 'Search' facility.

A minor point, but as someone that has lived in both Gibraltar and the Crown Dependency of Guernsey, I must point out that Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory that enjoys a very different relationship with the UK to the CDs.
