Manchester to Geneva on Ethiopian may seem an odd choice of flight but it is one way of getting to the ski slopes (and on a wide-bodied long-haul aircraft too).
Using fifth freedom rules the Addis Ababa-based airline can pick up passengers (and revenue) on its services to the Ethiopian capital, now three times weekly and going up to four from 30 October.
The timings are departure Manchester 18:50 arriving Geneva 21:40, then at 22:40 on to Addis Ababa to arrive 07:30 the next day. In the other direction departure is 01:15, Geneva 06:15 departing 07:15 arriving Manchester 08:05 (all times local).
Ethiopian says the routing from Manchester to Addis Ababa offers travellers to and from the north a more workable routing than changing terminals at Heathrow.
All Ethiopian flights out of the UK operate the three-class Boeing 787-9.
Pre-Covid Ethiopian flew between Manchester and Brussels as a similar fifth freedom service. Ethiopian also started flights between Dublin and Madrid in 2019, later switching to Brussels, before suspending them. Ethiopian is a member of Star Alliance.
