British Airways is trimming the winter schedule by 8% until the end of March and more than 600 flights will be cancelled up to late October. The carrier said the decision had been made following Heathrow’s extension of its 100,000-passenger a day capacity cap as noted in Heathrow cutback in last week’s BTN .
“While the vast majority of our customers will travel as planned, and we’re protecting key holiday destinations over half-term, we will need to make some further cancellations”, British Airways said.
“In addition, we’re giving customers travelling with us this winter notice of some adjustments to our schedule, which will include consolidating some of our short-haul flights to destinations with multiple services”.
“We’ll be offering customers affected by any of these changes an alternative flight with British Airways or another airline, or a refund”.
The announcement (not on the press web site) comes as the airline provides customers with several months’ notice of changes.
The Times makes the culprit clear, Heathrow Airport and its CEO John Holland-Kay, Business Editor Alistair Osborne delivering a scathing criticism of the airport making a loss when its smaller London rival Gatwick is back into profit. (See Gatwick figures in this week’s BTN.)
