Norwegian Air (DY) long-haul has gone, but long live Norse Atlantic Airways (NO). Same aircraft (Boeing Dreamliner) and same routes.#####
On Friday 12 August it was the turn of the Oslo-based airline start-up to go where others had been before and launch a Gatwick – JFK route. Until the end of the summer season it is a daily flight.
The big question on everyone’s lips was whether Norse can succeed where Norwegian failed.
Norse Atlantic offers six pricing tiers: Economy Light, Economy Classic, Economy Plus, Premium Light, Premium Classic and Premium Plus. Premium tickets include priority security screening. No in-flight wi-fi for anyone, the Premium cabin, with its 2+3+2 layout and 46inch seat pitch, comparable with Premium Economy on a number of airlines but made to feel rather like Business Class with less legroom.
Norse claims it has stronger cost control than its predecessor. It says it won’t get distracted by launching flights to Singapore or creating Argentinian subsidiaries – one of Norwegian’s many bizarre strategic decisions.
Rhys Jones of Head for Points was on the inaugural flight. Here is his full report.
