Swan Hellenic is back

Today (Monday 11 July) sees the christening at the Helsinki Shipyard of Swan Hellenic Vega, a not so new player in the ‘Explorer’ ship market.

Swan Hellenic was first established as Swan's Tours in the 1950s, a tour operator carrying guests to historic sites and smaller, usually Mediterranean destinations not practical for large ships.  Swan Hellenic provided enrichment throughout the trips.  Owners have included over the years P&O/Carnival and All Leisure Holidays Group, who ended operations in 2017, not before the then Minerva became the first British cruise ship to visit Cuba.

Such was the strength of the brand a new company has been put together by investors based in the Principality of Monaco able to fund and create three new ships, Minerva, Vega and Diana.  Swan Hellenic, the new 20th century model, was announced in July 2020 with a passion for exploratory travel to the globe’s furthest far-flung places.

The ship will make its first commercial cruise, a return trip from Tromso to Svalbard (Norway) on 20 July, followed by an Artic venture finishing in Reykjavik (Iceland).  Canada and Greenland follow before venturing south to the Antarctic for a winter season.

The Swan Hellenic flagship Minerva, sister ship of Vega, is being readied in Montevideo (Uruguay) prior to the departure of its first Antarctica (our) winter 2022 cruise 18 October, Buenos Aires – Ushuaia (Argentina).
