Venice visitors

The city leaders of Venice have announced further details about the proposed entry fee for visitors.

Venice. Just like any other tourist attraction, you will have to pay.

The fee applies to day tourists who have to pre-book their visit.

Effective 16 January 2023, visitors will pay €3, €6, €8 or €10, depending on the season and how busy it is on the day. Fee dodgers could be fined up to €300.

How it is monitored has not yet been explained but the tax will be payable on a dedicated website or through a smartphone via a QR code to be presented in case of inspection.

Cruise ship guests will also have to pay but if you have a room booked in the city the fee does not apply as it is already incorporated into your room rate.

Residents of the city of Venice and their parents up to the third degree of kinship, students enrolled at school or university in Venice, owners of a home in Venice, whether Italian or foreign, and anyone travelling to Venice for professional reasons are also automatically exempted. Children under the age of six are also exempt from paying the tax.
