Luton flies on

London Luton Airport (IATA code LTN) has taken a chance and issued a statement boasting of its record and quoting Graham Olver, CEO of Luton Rising, the trading name of London Luton Airport Ltd (LLA) whose sole shareholder is Luton Borough Council.

“For the year to date, average waiting times at LLA have been 15 minutes for check-in, 7 minutes for security, and 11 minutes for passport control”, making it probably the UK’s current best major airport in terms of customer service.  No mention of luggage delivery but at LTN it’s usually quick with simple delivery system from aircraft to baggage hall.

The actual operation of the airport is vested in London Luton Airport Operations Ltd (LLAOL), part of the Spanish specialist airport group whose contract extends past 2030.

The statement goes on to say that as with all airports, passenger numbers plunged at the start of the pandemic, Luton Rising and LLAOL signing a new partnership agreement, with Luton Rising providing £45m in funds to stabilise the airport’s revenue.

Olver makes the point that the airport is owned for the benefit of the community.

The Direct Air-Rail Transit (DART) rail link to Luton Parkway station is undergoing final testing and should open “well before the end of the year”.
