BA service cuts

British Airways is to cut 15% off its Gatwick short-haul flights for July and 7% at Heathrow.  Many services are moving from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5.

The reductions were published by Aeroroutes and are based on OAG schedules.  Why these have been made is not clear, whether due to slot or staff shortage problems.

At Gatwick some 27 routes are involved with the biggest cuts being Amsterdam with 23 lost (out of 80) and Faro and Malaga (20 from 56).

The figure for Heathrow is about 50, Amsterdam again a big loser (196 to 160) and also Jersey (151 to 159), but with that route passengers can rebook with Blue Islands and take a bus (or expensive taxi/Uber) and travel to Southampton Airport.

BA is also moving many of its flights operating out of Heathrow T3 to T5.

All of the carrier’s long-haul services, and over half of its short-haul flights will operate to and from T5 from 12 July.

The airline stated that “the move will help increase operational resilience for our flying programme and improve the experience for customers with connecting flights”.

BA has begun informing customers via email and recommends that passengers check their booking on its website before travelling to the airport.
