The Dutch Government is to limit annual flight numbers at Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to 440,000 from November 2023 to reduce noise pollution and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emissions, and to strike a ‘new balance’. With the average number of aircraft seats now reducing with the A380’s service decline this could mean Schiphol losing its (2019) third busiest airport status. KLM would be the biggest sufferer.
The Government said that the airport’s location in a “highly urbanised” area has adverse effects on the health of people and the environment.
IATA called the reduction a “shocking blow to aviation, jobs and the economy”, while noting that NOx emissions from aircraft account for only about 1% of total in the Netherlands. The move comes after Schiphol imposed a temporary cap on passenger numbers to alleviate congestion, delays and cancellations caused by staff shortages.

Is this action by the trains lobby. I don’t want to go to St Pancras when London City is local.
