Cruise news

Crystal Cruises, which promoted itself as a 6-star cruise line, could be back in business. Ships up for auction have been sold.

Following the collapse of Crystal’s owner, Genting Hong Kong, an auction in the Bahamas realised $25m for Crystal Symphony (1995) and $128m for Crystal Serenity (2003) more than meeting marketing expectations.

Both ships are around 60,000 tons carrying 1,000 passengers and are amongst the most luxurious afloat.

Silversea Cruises is reportedly set to become the new owner of Crystal Endeavor, completed in 2021, at 20,000 tons and 200 passengers.  Said to be the world's first purpose-built polar class megayacht, it is presently moored in Gibraltar.

What becomes of the very strong Crystal brand is unknown.  The Crystal European river ships are expected to be sold also.
