Nepal air crash

With its challenging terrain Nepal has suffered another air crash, this time a De Havilland Twin Otter of Tara Airlines, all 22 on board lost.

According to Wikipedia there has been 27 fatal plane crashes in Nepal, of which, over 20 have occurred in the last decade.  The aircraft in question was a -300 earlier Toronto-built version, not the current Vancouver assembled -400.

The army said the De Havilland Twin Otter, outbound from Pokhara to Jomsom crashed in Sanosware shortly after losing contact with air traffic control. Passengers included a family of four Indians and two German trekkers.

“Initially, the weather was good but quickly worsened. Then, we lost contact,” said Puskal Sharma, head of Jomsom airport.

Tara Airlines was created in 2009.  In 2016 a series 400 Twin Otter also succumbed to a fatal crash on the same route. The Nepal government has opened a formal investigation into the crash.
