KLM’s Elbers for India

Pieter Elbers (52), who surprisingly stepped down as KLM’s Chief Executive in January of this year, is to replace retiring IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta from 1 October.

Elbers reasons for not taking up a third term at KLM have never been announced but it could be that interference by partner carrier Air France might be an issue.

A low-cost carrier and established in 2006, Indigo is the largest airline in India by passengers carried and fleet size, with a 53.5% domestic market share as of October 2021, and currently 277 Airbus A320 series and on order 255 Airbus 321 neo with a 222-seat layout.  Indigo is listed on the Mumbai Stock Exchange.
