Munich for SWISS Air.
SWISS International Air Lines is enhancing its cooperation with Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) to serve new destinations.
The previous cooperation allowed passengers to travel between Zurich International Airport and Basle, Geneva and Lugano on an integrated ticket. The new agreement adds Munich to the list of destinations from July, and also incorporates some intermediate calling points – in particular Bellinzona, Bern, Bregenz, Fribourg and Lausanne.
The initial concept, branded Flugzug, started in 1999 with a train every other hour between Basle and Zurich International Airport, bypassing Zurich main station (at that time a terminus). In 2019 the concept was extended to Zurich – Lugano (with the closure of Adria Airlines, who formerly flew the route): passengers needed to change at Zurich main station. A year later, it was extended again to cover Zurich – Geneva.
Trains have SWISS flight numbers and from July will be branded SWISS Air Rail.
