MARCH CRUISE NEWS

All will be revealed on Thursday 9 March.

Queen Anne.

Due to make her maiden voyage in early 2024, the 249th Cunarder will secure the world’s second oldest passenger ship operator for future generations.  Queen Anne will make up a remarkable quartet alongside Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth.  Sister company P&O was founded just two years earlier.

Cunard has been coy in giving detail of the new ship and BTN can only speculate.

What we do know for fact is that the ship is under construction in the Fincantieri Monfalcone Shipyard, in the Gulf of Trieste (Italy).  She is thought to be of 3,000 passenger capacity and of 113,000 tons, with the hull design of the Holland America  Koningsdam class.  What is really interesting is the power supply, with the cruise industry now very much into environmentally friendly ships with the latest azipod systems and emphasizing sustainability on board.  Victoria and Elizabeth have a distinct Cunard ambience and style.  With the new ship this will certainly be the case.

We wait now for the 250th Cunarder in the not-too-distant future.

BTN makes a plea for "Queen Alexandra", a very popular Queen Consort, wife of Edward VII, founder of the  Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps and instigator of the Olympic Marathon length. Cunard could then line up all the Queens of England since 1837; Victoria, Alexandra, Mary, Elizabeth plus the 17th century Anne.
