Heathrow Terminal 4

Terminal 4 at Heathrow is to reopen in July to cope with an expected surge in passenger traffic over the summer peak season.

Heathrow’s Chief Executive John Holland-Kaye confirmed that the southern terminal was starting to get ready to welcome back its tenant airlines, all now in T2, with the exception of Qatar, in T5 and Korean T3.

He added: “We are working closely with airlines to scale-up our operations and reopen Terminal 4 for the summer travel peak.

“We’re excited to welcome more passengers back to Heathrow to experience the joys of travel and get our economy firing on all cylinders again.”

Heathrow closed Terminals 3 and 4 in May 2020 as international travel collapsed with lockdowns all over the globe to halt the spread of Covid.

Prior to the pandemic some 45 airlines were hosted at T4 including the SkyTeam alliance members Air France and KLM, plus a number of carriers from the Middle East including El Al, Etihad, Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways, Oman Air, Saudia, and the already mentioned Qatar Airways.

Holland-Kaye said that passenger numbers were currently 23% behind forecast so far this year, but he added: “We expect to meet our 2022 target of 45.5m passengers”.
