Humanitarian support for Ukrainians in crisis is now clearly an urgent global priority – and nowhere more so than in the air transport sector.Last week, Airlink the industry’s Washington DC-based emergency response organisation, transported 42 emergency responders on behalf of 11 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to countries bordering Ukraine. These teams included medical and mental health professionals, plus important assessment teams critical to ensuring that right aid gets to the right places when needed. More emergency response help is planned and on its way.
The organisation, with more than 40 airline partners worldwide, stated: “Airlink is supporting the humanitarian community by identifying flight options in the region. Due to Ukraine’s closed airspace, options will include destinations in neighbouring countries. We will continue to monitor other destinations supported by our network”.
To help fund humanitarian emergency work, Airlink has launched its Ukraine Response appeal.
The organisation was formed in 2009 by the ISTAT Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the International Society for Transport Aircraft Trading. Its first response came a year later when Port-au-Prince (Haiti), was struck by a catastrophic earthquake. Supported by its airline partners and corporate sponsors, Airlink provides airlift and logistics expertise to more than 130 humanitarian support NGOs around the world.

Well done Airlink. It’s new to me but clearly is doing the right thing.
