Air carriers into England face dilemma. British holiday airline Jet2.com has become the first major UK carrier to relax its requirement for passengers to wear face coverings onboard its flights.
The airline eased its mask rules on last Tuesday (1 March) for passengers travelling to and from airports in England and Northern Ireland.
“It’s no longer a legal requirement to wear a face mask at our airports or onboard our planes", reads Jet2’s updated advice on face coverings on its website.
"However, as per UK government guidance, we recommend that you continue to wear a face mask in these spaces, and you will need to wear one when you get to your overseas destination".
Face coverings will remain mandatory on flights operating to and from airports in Scotland at this time where wearing them in confined spaces remains a legal requirement for all people aged six and above.
Passengers will also be asked to wear face coverings at certain points during their journey, depending on their point of departure and destination.
"You’ll need to wear a mask when you leave the plane, inside the airport and onboard our transfers to and from your accommodation, even if you’re fully vaccinated", said Jet2 in its guidance for when passengers are overseas.
"There may also be additional face mask restrictions in some places, and the rules around ages may differ per destination too".
Whether other airlines follow suit remains to be seen. BTN will follow up on TWITTER.

I will not give a name but under the new arrangement cabin crew can be LAX and CDG. Paris is OK with a face mask for one hour but Los Angeles and 11 hours is not. Dear Sean, follow Jet2.

When will BA do the same. It can’t be much fun for the crew on it’s 11 hour sectors

The quicker Heathrow opens T4 the better. I live in South London and Air France for Paris is far better for that terminal than T2 with its miles of walking.
