Manchester United and Aeroflot *

Following revelations in last Monday's BTN (see the revised Manchester United to fly on Aeroflot, MU, as often called, has dropped all associations with Aeroflot, which date back to 2013.

Titan Airways, a member of Airlines UK, took on the charter, flying the team on one of its Airbus 320s from Manchester Airport to Madrid last Tuesday, returning straight after the 1-1 draw with Atletico.

Now the visual reminders of that deal have also been erased as sport joins in steps being taken by governments around the world against Russia.

Britain had earlier banned Aeroflot from UK airspace following Russia’s assault on Ukraine.

A United spokesperson said: "In light of events in Ukraine, we have withdrawn Aeroflot's sponsorship rights. We share the concerns of our fans around the world and extend our sympathies to those affected".

Luton v Chelsea Wednesday. It is bound to attract a record worldwide audience on BBC1. Up Hatters.

The real question is why Manchester United have been sponsored all these years by Putin’s airline. It was obvious what he was up to. Soccer has become too commercial. Liverpool v Chelsea was enthralling and whilst Abramovich is a true supporter the right team won. Let’s hope Luton thrash them at tiny Kenilworth Road on Wednesday.
