Aircraft Interiors and MRO Show

Alison Chambers of Emerald Media reports from the UAE.

A popular destination – for tourism and events – Dubai is firmly back and Emirates is running high frequency, full flights, once again from London.

Last week the Middle East’s MRO & Aircraft Interiors Show (www.aime.aero) drew a healthy, international attendance at the World Trade Centre, formally opened by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chair and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group.

Its overriding theme – collaboration and sustainability – was evident from the outset with organisers Aviation Week Events and Tarsus F&E LLC Middle East (which runs Dubai Air show and MEBA) combining to host.  It played out its own news live too.

During the opening MRO leaders’ panel chaired by Lee Ann Shay, Executive Editor, MRO, Aviation Week Network; Fahn H. Cynndy, CEO of SAEI, secured verbal commitment from his panelists – Fraser Currie, CEO, Joramco; Ziad al-Hazmi, CEO, Lufthansa Technik Middle East and Frederic Dupont, VP, Technical Sales and Customer Service, Etihad Airways, to start working closely together to better serve customers.   Middle East carriers led the growth (pre-pandemic) but our MROs “aren’t in the world’s top 10,” he exclaimed.

Speaker Robbie Bourke, Partner, Oliver Wyman, highlighted that supply chain challenges are a concern.  His firm forecasts a 4.5% annual growth for the region over the next decade, but the industry will have to confront rising carbon dioxide emissions and its lack of immediate solutions to reduce them.  With more narrow-bodies entering the region (15 operators will add nearly 700 aircraft through to end of the decade) the Middle East’s market share of widebodies will drop 50%.
