Chinese C919

Is the first Chinese C919 about to be delivered?

Conceived as a competitor to the highly successful Boeing 737, and later the Airbus A320 series, China Eastern is expected to introduce the long time in gestation narrow-bodied aircraft any time now.

First announced in 2008, and with its maiden flight 5 May 2017, the aircraft has around 170 firm orders and a large number of letters of intent.  It is expected to be seen at Farnborough late July.

As things stand with just 168 seats the aircraft is much smaller than the bestselling Airbus and Boeing products each having room for up to 230 passengers and considerably more range.

Whilst assembled in Shanghai, most of the components are sourced from the West including the CFM engines.

The aircraft should not be confused with the Comac ARJ21 which is an up to 90-seat regional jet in production with around 70 delivered (out of 238) to Chinese local airlines.
