Emirates has closed its A380 aircraft airborne lounges on a temporarily basis citing the spreading Omicron variant. Welcoming pre-takeoff cocktails have also been discontinued.Health and safety concerns have prompted the airline to alter some aspects of its onboard service temporarily, it said.
“Emirates expresses its sincere apologies for any inconvenience this has caused. Our clients’ and our employees’ well-being is our first priority, and we will not take any risks”.
It is unknown when the service would restart. However the company stated that the lounges at Dubai International Airport and various destinations are open.
Emirates received its 123rd Airbus A380 superjumbo jet in December and has around 60 in its operational fleet.
All of its aircraft have HEPA cabin air filters, which remove more than 99% of viruses. Personal protection equipment, such as masks, gloves, and disposable gowns, is used by the cabin crew.
