After a recommendation from the Ministry of Health, Israel has removed ‘red’ countries from their no-fly list. It will once again allow travel to the US and the UK, although it is telling Israelis not to travel to high-risk countries ‘without a good reason.’The news will be welcomed by British Airways, easyJet, Virgin Atlantic and Wizz for whom Ben Gurion Airport Tel Aviv has always been a popular destination. There are no ex-UK services at present to the country’s alternative international airport, Ilan and Asaf Ramon International Airport – Eilat.
Other ‘red’ countries (United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mexico, Switzerland and Turkey) are removed from the list. Israel implemented travel restrictions on these countries in December due to a surge of Omicron cases.
Health advisors say the ban now serves no purpose as Omicron has already spread widely in Israel.
