Scottish airports at Westminster

In what could be seen as a challenge to Holyrood, Westminster’s Scottish Affairs Committee will today (10 January) interview the major airport operators north of the border.

Under scrutiny are Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive, Edinburgh Airport; Inglis Lyon, Managing Director, Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd; and Brian McClean, Director of Communications and Sustainability, AGS Airports, operators of Aberdeen and Glasgow airports.

During the session the Committee will look at the impact Covid has had on airports in Scotland.  Airports have seen a drop in passenger numbers, and some airlines ceased operating temporarily during the height of the pandemic.  In rural communities airports had to stay open for emergency services, key industry workers and cargo for crucial supplies.

Following COP26, the Committee says it is also keen to explore the impact that environmental policies are having on airports, and in particular what schemes are in place to reduce the carbon footprint.
