Doha and the FIFA World Cup

Qatar Tourism hosted its first mega travel trade familiarisation trip last week, welcoming 236 tour operators from 29 countries around the world, to showcase Qatar as a leading holiday destination, ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The three-day itinerary was specially designed, in partnership with Discover Qatar and Qatar Airways, to showcase the diverse attractions the country has to offer.

Starting with a panoramic tour of the capital Doha, including the Stadium 974, guests then explored the dramatic sand dunes leading to Khor Al Adaid, a large tidal embayment known as the Inland Sea and recognised for its outstanding natural heritage value.

The mega familiarisation trip also incorporated a visit to Katara Cultural Village, the largest and the most multi-dimensional cultural project in the country; and Msheireb Downtown, the world’s first fully sustainable downtown regeneration project. Other highlights included a tour of the National Museum of Qatar, and Doha Design District, home to design and art galleries, showrooms, innovative stores and international restaurants.

Business Travel News is making the most of the holiday publishing closedown (no issues 20 & 27 December & 3 January) with the Editor-in-Chief on a visit to Doha and the soccer stadiums.  An ON TOUR of Qatar will be published in the first edition of 2022, Monday 10 January. (Media commissions sought.)
