London networking is back in fashion with the air travel industry and three significant events.
Monday 22 November kicks off a busy period with Airlines UK 2021 at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, Westminster. Amongst the speakers lined up are Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Transport; Willie Walsh, Director General, International Air Transport Association (IATA); Luis Gallego, CEO, International Airlines Group (IAG); and Shai Weiss, CEO, Virgin Atlantic. Moderators include Peggy Hollinger, Financial Times and Simon Calder, The Independent.
The following week it is the turn of the Aviation Club with HE Akbar Al Baker, Chairman and CEO, Qatar Airways, as Guest of Honour for the last luncheon of the year at the RAC. Over the last 25 years Al Baker, sometimes controversially, has built up Qatar Airways into one of the world’s major international airlines with a network of over 125 destinations from Hamed International Airport, opened in 2014 and built very much under his guidance. At the present time Qatar Airways operates around 235 aircraft and also has a thriving business jet fleet. Qatar Airways was the launch customer for the Airbus A350. It is likely to be a lively session.
The next two days (Wednesday and Thursday 1-2 December) are given over to the World Aviation Festival with a speaker list including the busy Al Baker and Weiss, and also CEOs from Air France, easyJet, Etihad, Heathrow Airport, JetBlue, KLM and Wizz Air. The venue here is ExCeL London, a short taxi ride from London City Airport and on the DLR.
