Birmingham busy

International Airlines Group (IAG) member airlines are doing their bit to help Birmingham Airport as it recovers from the effects of Covid-19.

Last week new into the airport with scheduled services was BA CityFlyer and Spanish carrier Vueling.  It is true to say that in the past Birmingham was a main regional hub for British Airways.

Welcoming the first passengers on the new services, Birmingham Airport’s Aviation Director, Tom Screen, said: “It was great to see a British Airways aircraft land on our runway again after three years absence. Domestic connectivity facilitated by regional airports can have a range of economic and social benefits, which are more important now than ever as the country recovers from the impact of the pandemic. Belfast is currently our busiest route so we are incredibly pleased that BA CityFlyer will be providing additional capacity and regular flights for our region’s business and leisure travellers.” EasyJet serves Birmingham from Belfast International.

Birmingham has also welcomed last week a new three times weekly service to Paris Orly with Vueling.  Flights will operate each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, offering direct connectivity to the left bank alternative central Paris airport. CDG is served by Air France.

This is Vueling’s second destination from Birmingham, complementing its existing service to Barcelona which operates four times weekly.  It also operates from Gatwick and Glasgow airports.
