Steve Gunning has resigned as Finance Director of International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company for British Airways.
His replacement is Nicholas Cadbury, previously holding a similar position with Whitbread Plc, the owner of Premier Inn. Cadbury has no airline experience as British Airways ponders its fleet replacement plans at both Heathrow and London City Airport (LCY) where its Cityflyer franchise is considering the future of its Embraer 98-seat Embraer 190s. At LCY larger and longer-range aircraft (and environmentally more friendly) from both Airbus and Embraer are available. IAG will also have a say in the Gatwick conundrum.
Gunning was previously Chief Financial Officer at British Airways and thought to be very much in the Willie Walsh camp and the obvious successor to Walsh as he moved on to IATA. The top IAG job went to Spaniard Luis Gallego, now resident in London.
