Wizz pilot wages

Hungarian airline Wizz Air has confirmed that it is reinstating pilot salaries to pre-Covid-19 levels as of 1 October.

The announcement comes as Wizz Air embarks on its largest ever recruitment drive for pilots and cabin crew, as the airline looks to meet its ambitious growth plans.

Wizz Air says it is ramping up operations across its entire network.  It plans to hire 200 pilots and 800 cabin crew members by December 2021.

With a long-term growth plan the airline says it plans to triple the size of its fleet to 500 Airbus aircraft over the next ten years. In order to fill positions created by this expansion, Wizz Air will hire on average 2,000 new recruits each year until 2030.

Mike Delehant, Executive Vice President and Chief Group Operations Officer, said: “There is no doubt the past year has been challenging for the industry, but we are proud to announce today that we are one of the first airlines to reinstate pilot salaries to pre-pandemic levels. We thank each and every one of our staff for the continued commitment, hard work and resilience they have shown since March 2020. As we continue to focus on sustainable growth, we look forward to welcoming thousands of new recruits in the coming years, to join our growing family.”
