AND FINALLY: Not an old photograph

This is a very recent image of Eridge Station, East Sussex, shared by Spa Valley, the preserved railway whose steam trains operate to and from Tunbridge Wells West and Southern’s services that run between London Bridge and Uckfield.

With financial support from the Railway Heritage Trust, Southern’s parent company Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) has painstakingly restored the station, which originally opened 3 August 1868.

Naturally there was a party on 3 August with the crowning glory the unveiling of a large pictorial map showing the East Sussex rail network as it was in 1900 – much more extensive than today – painted by local artist David Peacock and funded by Rotherfield Parish Council.

The steam trains are now running again and make for a fine day out.
