Following the late Friday evening announcement that France was now on Britain’s ‘Red’ list banning arrivals International Air Transport Association (IATA) Director General was quick to condemn it.“The UK has no coherent policy on international travel. The Government is flip flopping and making life impossible for people who are desperate to see friends and family. They promised freedom on the back of a successful vaccine programme and now pull the rug out from people at the 11th hour. Weak political leadership leads to weak policy. The UK is entrenching itself as an outlier in its confused approach to travel. This, in turn, is destroying its own travel sector and the thousands of jobs that rely on it.”
Walsh’s words have been swiftly echoed by others in the industry pointing out that this will have a devasting effect on UK-bound visitors from other countries too, not sure if their travel arrangements might change at the last moment.
